According to the New Jersey Law Journal, a state appeals court has upheld a $4 million verdict in favor of a nurse instructor who was injured in a slip-and-fall accident. The news source reported that on August 6, the appeals court ruled that there was no reason to overturn the verdict, which involved a nurse and the Bacharach Institute for Rehabilitation (BIR). The BIR, a rehab facility, attempted to have the appeals court invoke the Charitable Immunity Act and reduce the damage award to $250,000 for the nurse. The nurse was reportedly walking into the facility in 2010, where she was a part-time instructor, when she fell on ice. The nurse, who was contracted to work at the BIR through Atlantic Cape Community College, contended that the ice was an obvious safety hazard in her lawsuit and that the BIR was negligent in not clearing it or posting warning signs….
