CarMax Accused of Selling Defective Vehicles with Open Recalls

Three consumer safety organizations have accused CarMax of selling defective vehicles with open recalls. The Center for Auto Safety, the CARS Foundation and MASSPIRG Education Fund collaborated on a study that analyzed 1,699 vehicles sold at eight CarMax locations in three states. According to the study, titled Used Car Roulette, an average of 27 percent of vehicles sold by CarMax have these defects. Some of the vehicles sold at CarMax contain defects that are responsible for injuries and deaths in the US. Forty-five of the vehicles contained defective Takata airbags, which can explode with excessive force. These airbags are linked to 13 deaths and dozens of injuries in the US.
