A crane accident in American Fork, Utah, claimed the life of a young construction worker. The victim, who was in his 20s, was reportedly crushed under a cement wall knocked over by a falling crane.
Authorities were called around 9 a.m. and arrived on the scene to find a pretty horrific accident. They say the accident is the worst they had seen in recent years.
An ongoing investigation into the construction accident has been launched by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The investigation has since found the cause originated with the nearby crane.
The crane was being used to help set the under-construction concrete walls when it fell over, destroying a completed wall nearby and burying the victim in heavy debris. Another crane was brought in after the accident to help move the rubble and uncover the body of the construction worker.
Luckily, no other injuries were reported other than the fatality as a result of the crane accident.
Importance of Workplace Safety
Construction accidents are often 100 percent avoidable. Construction companies and contractors are required to provide the safest working conditions possible for their employees.
If all safety regulations are not followed, and an accident occurs, resulting in a workplace injury or fatality, the construction company should be held liable.
Worker’s compensation claims help the victims and their families to take back their lives following an accident.
