General Motors has had to recall millions of vehicles due to defective ignition switches, which can cause the key to fall out of the switch and/or shut down the motor. The Associated Press has reported that GM has said that the switches are responsible for at least 54 crashes and more than 13 deaths.
However, many consumer safety experts have reported the death toll to be closer to 100. The affected vehicles in the recall include the Saturn Ion (2003-2007), Chevrolet Cobalt (2005-2010), Chevrolet HHR (2006-2011), Pontiac G5 (2007-2010), Pontiac Solstice (2006-2010) and Saturn Sky (2007-2010).
Additionally, last month, it was reported that GM was recalling 215,000 Saturn VUE crossover SUVs made between 2002 and 2004 over defective ignition switch issues.
Who Do I Contact If I Am Injured in a Recalled Vehicle?
Corporations should not cut corners and place the public at risk as a way to save money. It has been reported that GM is under investigation from the government over claims that it knew about issues relating to the ignition switches on these vehicles and that it delayed recalls.
Remember, there are laws that hold manufacturers accountable for deceptive practices and for design and developmental product defects. Keep in mind, you can use compensation from a personal injury lawsuit to pay for medical bills acquired through rehabilitation and therapy if you have been injured due to a vehicle defect.
