The Atlantic City firm of Targan & Pender, P.C. has been recognized as among the top medical malpractice firms in the State of New Jersey. The firm’s partners, Donald G. Targan and Michael J. Pender, review each medical malpractice referral with a medical expert on staff. We also review these cases with medical doctors, who critically review the merits of each claim. This careful and thorough review of medical malpractice claims has allowed us to effectively represent individuals and families harmed by medical negligence.

The Atlantic City medical malpractice attorneys at Targan & Pender, P.C. have successfully handled medical malpractice claims involving the delayed diagnosis of cancer, surgical errors, improper prescription medications, birth injury from labor and delivery errors and a wide variety of other claims. In each matter, we retain highly qualified experts on behalf of our clients. A few examples are set forth below.

We have obtained a $5.9 million verdict against an obstetrician with a history of problems. Ignoring signs of clear fetal distress, the doctor delayed performing a C-section for over 2 hours. The child suffered brain injury and cerebral palsy from the lack of oxygen and will never be able to live independently.

In another case, this same obstetrician negligently failed to order a simple pelvic test that would have shown the child was too large for a natural birth. Instead, the child’s skull was crushed during breach delivery. The doctor also failed to respond to fetal distress during delivery. This deprived the baby of oxygen and resulted in a severe brain injury and cerebral palsy. This case also resulted in a substantial recovery for our client.

Another case involving a birth injury was against an Atlantic City obstetrician who ignored warnings provided to doctors concerning a prescription medication. This obstetrician had failed his medical board several times and never obtained Board Certification. Doctors were warned not to provide this medication to pregnant women, especially in their third trimester. Nonetheless, the defendant doctor provided the dangerous medication. Further, the doctor failed to monitor the patient during this time and ignored early warning signs of fetal distress. As a result, the baby was born with brain damage and a destroyed kidney. The jury returned a verdict in favor of our client within 45 minutes of deliberation. The verdict was for $3.5 million.

In another matter, an Atlantic County jury awarded a $3.3 million verdict to our client, who was negligently injured during the course of a routine procedure. The injury cut off blood flow to the patient’s kidney. Our client lost a kidney due to this negligence. The Appellate Division upheld the verdict in favor of our client.

Donald G. Targan, our senior partner, has been regularly recognized as among the pre-eminent lawyers (“Super Lawyers”) in the field of medical negligence. This designation is limited to less than 50 practitioners in the state and is voted upon by a Blue Ribbon Panel of experts in the field.

It is critical that anyone seeking a lawyer to handle a medical malpractice case insist upon learning that firm’s own experience bringing these claims to a jury. Too often, law firms claim to handle medical malpractice but simply do not have experience in this area. Our Atlantic City medical malpractice lawyers are proud to have represented clients involved in medical malpractice from intake to trial and all the way to the New Jersey Supreme Court.
