Serious Accidents Need Serious Attorneys

Our Atlantic City Accident Lawyers Fight for Car, Bus and Truck Accident Victims

In Atlantic City, Atlantic County and our surrounding South Jersey regions, just like in the rest of the country, the leading cause of death among teenagers, and the leading cause of accidental death, is traffic accidents. These accidents are caused by high speed driving, distracted drivers using cell phones or texting, drivers who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs or drivers who are simply not paying attention. These accidents have a devastating impact on the lives of the individuals who survive. Our Atlantic City accident attorneys have represented individuals who have suffered paralysis, debilitating brain injuries, severe spinal injury and other harm from such accidents, as well as clients who have lost family members in wrongful death stemming from car, bus and truck accidents.

Automobile insurance companies often deny coverage for necessary medical procedures and deny benefits that were paid for with the policy. The delay in receiving medical treatment results in worsening disability and jeopardizes a person’s recovery, including the ability to return to work.

Catastrophic injuries can bring a heavy financial burden. Clients should not have to deal with fighting an insurance company on top of having to deal with the medical bills, time out of work and physical limitations the accident has caused. At the Atlantic City law firm of Targan & Pender, P.C., our goal is to allow our clients to focus on simply getting better.

Recent Results in Truck, Bus and Car Accidents

Our experience in handling complex medical cases has allowed us to provide effective representation for our clients, which has led to significant results. For example, we represented a teenage girl who suffered a severe traumatic brain injury when an elderly, color blind driver ran a red light and struck her vehicle. Our teenage client’s vehicle wrapped around a pole, and her head struck that same telephone pole at a high speed. She required life-saving surgery that included removing part of her skull to alleviate the brain swelling. Our client required additional surgery and intensive rehabilitation. She was fortunate enough to return to school, and she is now enrolled in college. The case involved significant investigation and involvement by brain injury experts. We recovered $2 million for our client in this case.

We have also represented individuals involved in bus-related accidents. For example, we represented a husband and wife who worked as motel managers along the Black Horse Pike in Atlantic City. One evening, as the husband was working at the front desk and the wife was in the nearby apartment, a casino bus driver fell asleep at the wheel while traveling at over 40 MPH on the Black Horse Pike. When the casino bus driver awoke, he realized that he was about to rear-end a vehicle stopped at a red light in front of the motel. The bus driver quickly veered the bus off the road and directly into the motel, causing catastrophic damage to the motel and trapping our clients in the rubble. Our clients survived but sustained significant injuries. The bus company went into bankruptcy for this and other claims. Fortunately, we were able to locate insurance and settle the claim for the available policy limit of $950,000.

In another negligent casino bus case, a mother and daughter were seriously injured while passengers on a negligently operated Atlantic City casino shuttle bus. The Atlantic City casino shuttle bus crashed into a casino wall, near the shuttle bus parking area. The impact threw our clients violently about inside the bus. Our 15-year-old client sustained a complex fracture to her arm that did not heal properly, preventing her from resuming her high school sports. The total settlement was $785,000; the child‘s portion of the settlement was $585,000. Her mother injured her lower back and underwent significant treatment, including epidural injections, with only slight benefit. The mother had a prior problem with her lower back, but now may require surgery. The mother’s portion of the settlement was $200,000.

In another case, we obtained a $640,000 settlement on behalf of a Pleasantville child who was struck by an elderly, visually-impaired auto parts delivery driver. The child was crossing the street to go to the store for his mother. The delivery driver was traveling over the speed limit, and he was not able to react in time to avoid the child. The child suffered a fracture to his skull. The case settled prior to trial. This settlement was put away for the child’s future.

We have also obtained a $500,000 recovery in binding arbitration after our client was thrown from a vehicle and underwent life-saving surgery.
